Thank you, and a request for contributions to this blog

I have not been able to get back to this site since August of 2011, yet I have seen a growing international readership. In the lat month, the interest by country, ranked by the number of hits to this site, has come from the following:

1. Germany

2. United States

3. Russia

4. Ukraine

5. Malaysia

6. United Kingdom

7. Australia

8. Romania

9. Greece

10. Indonesia
The ranking of countries of interest by cumulative number of hits since the site was started is:
1. United States

2. Russia

3. Germany

4. Netherlands

5. Ukraine

6. Italy

7. Latvia

8. United Kingdom

9. Sweden

10. Australia
There has been a resurgent interest in the last month, in spite of my absence, so one would have to conclude that there is something enduring about Blok. That is because Blok doesn't simply belong to history, he belongs to the world, the living world of today.
I would very much like to hear from you, either on this site, or privately to my email address: But this blog is the best place for such correspondence. First, I am very interested in your thoughts on the story and on Blok in general. Second, think of the other readers following this site; they would all like to hear your opinions and compare them with their own. Third, you may begin a dialogue which results in new discoveries, some of them self-discoveries. I hope I hear from you.

Global Readership and Interest in the Silver Age and Aleksandr Blok

I hav received a number of emails [] asking where the readers of this blog are from. As you might expect the country source of the largest number of hits is the United States, followed closely by Russia. After that, the largest groups are from, in order of size:

- UK
- Italy
- Germany
- Canada
- Spain
- Ukraine
- India
- Indonesia
- Estonia
- Lithuania
- Australia
- France

as well as several countries with fewer than 5 hits. While most interest is from the top 3 listed above plus US and Russia, what this list shows is that there is solid representation in the English-speaking world as well as global interest in Aleksandr Blok generally.

Russian readers are surprised that an American who is not a scholar would take so much interest in the Silver Age. I answer them that it has been a personal discovery of mine and I want to share it with my countrymen. Writng a novel which is faithful to the facts is the best way for me to immerse non-Russians and non-scholares into a culture which is new to them. When I say the Silver Age comes as a "discovery" for me, I truly mean it, because the subjects of Blok and the Silver Age are totally lost in the US, and I suspect, other parts of the world. The Silver Age is not mentioned in any course of Western Civilization taught in American high schools and colleges, and all of the Silver Age poets, authors and artists are unknown in America, except to scholars of Slavic languages and literature and a few who studied the subject in college. So, it really is a discovery, one which I hope this website and accompanying novel help to share with others.
